Here are a few of my favorite Aphorisms:

  • We are so anxious to achieve some particular end that we never pay attention to the psycho physical means whereby that end is to be gained.  So as far we are concerned, any old means is good enough.  But the nature of the universe is such that the ends can never justify the means.  On the contrary, the means always determine the end.
    Aldous Huxley
  • Our deeds determine us, as much as we determine our deeds.
    George Eliot
  • A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep. – Saul Bellow
  • I think I think; therefore, I think I am – Ambrose Bierce
  • How describe the delicate thing that happens when a brilliant insect alights on a flower?  Words, with their weight, fall upon the picture like birds of prey. – Jules Renard
  • There is no cure for birth and death, save to enjoy the interval.
    – George Santayana

  • There is no reality except the one contained within us.  That is why so many people live such an unreal life.  They take the images outside them for reality and never allow the world within to assert itself.
    – Herman Hesse

  • As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.
    – Albert Einstein

  • Cloquet hated reality, but realized it was still the only place to get a good steak.
    – Woody Allen

  • Don’t believe everything you think.
    – Anonymous

  • Clay is molded to make a vessel, but the utility of the vessel lies in the space where there is nothing. . . . Thus, taking advantage of what is, we recognize the utility of what is not.
    – Lao Tzu
